MACAS4 is scheduled to be held at The University of Montana, Missoula in the fourth week of May 2011 [May 27-29].

In keeping with the tradition of the three previous symposia held in Germany, 2005; Denmark 2007, Canada, 2009; MACAS4 will be a 3 day event, with participation strictly by invitation and limited to 25 to facilitate high interaction among attendees. The invitation is pursuant to the quality of the submitted paper and the ability to participate actively and contribute to the ongoing work of the Symposium. The goals of this fourth edition of the biennial Symposium is to continue to develop interdisciplinary initiatives from both a research and practitioner’s viewpoint, with room for esoteric contributions that fit its long-term goals. Refereed proceedings will be published in a book by Information Age Publishing in the following book series: The Montana Mathematics Enthusiast: Monograph Series in Mathematics Education.

The MACAS group has successfully collaborated and published numerous high quality books and journal issues, and it is our goal to continue the scholarly nature of the group's work. For examples of the group's endeavors, See:
Special Issue of ZDM, 2009, vol41, nos 1& 2 on Interdisciplinarity: Psychology, Philosophy, Aesthetics, Modeling & Curriculum

Interdisciplinary Educational Research in Mathematics and its Connections to the Arts and Sciences

Interdisciplinarity, Creativity and Learning: Mathematics with Literature, Paradoxes, History, Technology & Modeling

3-page extended abstracts of proposed papers along with a brief cv are due August 30, 2010 for full consideration. Full papers will only be encouraged after preliminary screening of the abstracts. Full papers will be due November 10, 2010, and final decisions on invitation to participate will be relayed on December 15, 2010.

Invited participants are strongly encouraged to make (air) travel plans early as Missoula, Montana is the gateway to both Glacier National Park as well as Yellowstone National Park, and flights tend to get booked early. Given the high costs of (international travel) along with room and board expenses that invited participants have to bear, MACAS4 will not charge any registration fees.
