Notes-[updated Fri, Feb 6, 2009]

Welcome to Math 448: Statistical Methods - Lab!  Please bring a flash drive with you to lab.  Also, download the DEMO and the Report for the lab before you enter the class on lab day.  (This will save on paper costs to us.)  Thanks.

Jon said that he has 3 copies of the text (Ott) in the library if students need to check one out.

I made a page with some relevant student comments and questions from lab day, called FAQ page.

Check out FAQ  periodically to check for updates.

FAQ last updated on Feb 6, 2009.

Introducing R doing Chi-Squared

  • Linear Regression basics using SPSS
  • Chi-Squared using R

NOTE:  for our “new lab people” we will have another R review session this week (our last one) where we will go over R-Commander.  Think about a time you can come to room MA 306.

Multiple Regression Model Building

This will be a 2 week project.  Week 1 will be to complete the DEMO 6, and week 2 will  be to complete the Worksheet 6, since there is so much material to consider in model building.

March 10

More Model Building with Regression

  • Note that Lab 7 is due in 2 weeks, and that Lab 6 is due next week (unless you want to turn it in now).

March 17

Logistic Modeling

Regression Investigation

·        This Lab 8 is a rather long project, is worth 40 points (4 labs worth), and is not due until after spring break

·        Lab 8 Report (due anytime after spring break, up until last day of regular classes)

·        obese.sav

·        obesitystudy.dat

·        obesity.R

March 24

Looking for Loss of Fit (LOF) Using Residual Plots

  • This lab will be due the first lab after spring break.
  • You will need to review Jon’s lecture notes pp 93-95 to do this lab.
